Sometimes, when moving pallets on pallet conveyor systems, there is a need to move a pallet at a 90 degree angle from the main travel direction, possibly to another machine or a pallet storage area.
On heavy duty pallet conveyors where the pallets are heavy, the movement can really only be done by a version of a lift and transfer system. This is where a multi strand chain conveyor pops up between the gaps in the rollers and lifts up the pallet before moving it away at 90 degrees onto another system or conveyor.
This can however become quite expensive if there is a limit on total budget and in addition the pallet has to be a certain type with the runners on the underside in a certain position, and in good condition.
Often with pallets this is sadly not the case. Where the pallet is light and the lift and transfer system is not possible or feasible, a pneumatic pusher system can be a good solution. One or two pneumatic cylinders can push the pallet across the rollers at a much lower cost than a lift and transfer system.
You may notice that there are rollers at a slight angle on the photo attached. This is so because it helps position the pallet to the edge of pallet conveyors for even pushing.
